Email is not just a case of hitting the ’send’ button. There are email marketing best practices that need to be taken into consideration for all marketers.

Often times, many marketers are unaware of strategies involved in sending email and the words “best practices” aren’t even thought of because they aren’t even known about. The following email marketing tips should be considered at the very minimum - in the quest to optimizing your emails.

Don’t just hit the send button! Think about what you are sending and who you are sending it to. Is your content relevant? Most importantly, is your content relevant to the audience you are sending to? Emails don’t need to announce your companies entire course of events and updates, news, information over the last months or even year. They need to contain content that is relevant and valuable to your audience. Content that is compelling and allows your audience to scan quickly and take action! Leading me to tip #2.

Pay attention to your subject line. Is it compelling? Is it misleading? Are you setting expectations you cannot deliver on? Are you even setting expectations? Consider a more detailed subject line to entice readers vs a more broad subject line. But, most importantly - test, test, and test your subject line to determine what subject line is most compelling to your audience. Your open rate is a key success metric for determining a successful subject line.
