SMX Advanced - June 3, 2008
Okay, well I’m not going to blog about everything I heard today but I am going to identify the Top Ten highlights (professionally and personally):
1. Matt Cutts was called the “Moral Compass of SEO”
2. Visit mattcutts.com/blog for 6 new updates from robots.txt to no follow and more documentation
3. In some cases Google bots will select dropdown links in forms so they can crawl further pages (i.e. if you have pages that are location specific, like select region or state, etc.)
4. MSN AdCenter is announcing this week the creation and use of an offline editor
5. MSN Live Search claims one differientiator is results for task-oriented searches (i.e. planning a trip), search Seattle flights on Live for an example
6. Consider tailoring your PPC ad copy to keywords related to where consumers are in the buy cycle
7. Yahoo! site explorer offers dynamic URL rewriting and you can delete URLs
8. Utilize some good tools on MSN Labs (who knew?) like Search funnel tool and Seasonality tool for PPC
9. No follow - Google does not pass on link juice and does not use it for discovery, Yahoo! does not pass link juice but does use if for discovery, MSN - had no idea! not a surprise - did i mention they flap somewhere around 9% of search market and I believe that is being generous.
10. I met Matt Cutts and Rand Fishkin in one day - see my shameless photo opp to the left.

I’d like to meet Rand Fishkin. That guy seems pretty cool. So does Matt Cutts.
