Back in June, Google and Yahoo! announced an advertising agreement and rumors started flying.  Three months later, today, Google created a separate web site to clear the dust.

Yahoo! will have access to Google’s AdSense advertising programs on their U.S. and Canadian web properties. Here are a few highlights:

• This is a non-exclusive deal that will strengthen Yahoo!.
• Ad prices will continue to be set by competitive auction.
• The deal is win-win for consumers, advertisers and publishers: more and better ads.

Google and Yahoo! are framing it as positive, and I believe this to be the case. Advertisers will have a broader distribution of ads, but if advertisers wish to guarantee that ads are shown on Yahoo! they must use Yahoo!’s advertising platform and visa versa.
