The tipping point of local search has been rumored to be around for a while, but with the advent of the google 10-pack, some say it might be right around the corner. Soon, the world wide web may be come a lot more regionalized.

    There are tipping points and there are Tipping Points.

    I contend that in specific industries like real estate, used cars, restaurants, hotels. florists and lawyers, the tipping point of acceptance and local demand has long since passed. Each industry will accept Local if and when its particular advertising/marketing model is bested by the disruption that is Local Search. The march toward the Tipping Point is a series of niche tipping points that have been occurring regularly for the past 4 years and each industry will move over when it needs to.

    This movement is facilitated by better search algos at Google like the 10-pack as well as hardware developments like the iPhone that pushes this data out further and further from the desktop.

    So rather than waiting for the Tipping Point, assess whether you or your business is well served by this medium and if it is, then embrace it.
